MEMENTO: HANA BEAMAN at XGames.com
Posted May 30, 2013
One person's debris is another's discovery: Beaman cradles a piece of Bosnian history. Photo: Ashley Barker The pro athletes covered on XGames.com regularly travel the globe chasing waves, powder, contests and more. But we wanted to know what kind of souvenirs they smuggle home in their board bags. (Tiny spoons? Misspelled T-shirts? Obscure energy drinks from Oman?) "Memento" is a semi-regular column on Scene that chronicles these cultural anthropologists of action, good and bad. Anything to declare ...

IPod Explains the YOLO Flip
Posted April 1, 2013
On Friday, March 22, 2013, Iouri Podladtchikov landed a trick during the X Games Tignes Men's SuperPipe finals that no one had ever thought to do before, much less attempted and ridden away from clean. Unfortunately, the trick, a switch frontside 1440 -- better known now as the "YOLO flip" -- was not the last one in his run. Having finally landed the YOLO, a goal he had been aiming for since X Games Aspen, I-Pod came into his final hit ...

Iouri Podladtchikov Qualifies First In X Games Superpipe
Posted Jan. 25, 2013
ASPEN, Colo. -- If Shaun White is to win his sixth straight Snowboard SuperPipe gold medal Sundaynight at X Games Aspen, he'll have to do it from an unfamiliar position. White qualified second Thursday night, one-third of a point behind Swiss rider Iouri Podladtchikov, whose second-run 87.33 trumped White's conservative first run down the Buttermilk pipe. That means Podladtchikov will drop in to the SuperPipe last in the final, a coveted position almost exclusively occupied by White in ...
