2012 Vans Wängl Tängl Photo Recap

Eric Willett and Kalle Ohlson.
What if you took some of the best park riders in the world, invited them to the ultimate mountain town in the Austrian Alps, gave them a sick setup to ride at will for a week in the warm, spring sunshine, and had a party every night with good DJs, live music and crazy Europeans ready to rage? Oh, and throw in a random late season snowstorm with a foot of fresh pow. That pretty much sums up the Vans Wängl Tängl presented by G-Shock in Mayrhofen, Austria.
What started as an annual shred and skate event by local Ästhetiker crew of Drew Stevenson, Steve Gruber and Vans Team Rider Wolle Nyvelt ten years ago has grown into the most unique event in all of snowboarding. Now known as the Vans Wängl Tängl, this “contest-ival” brings people together from different parts of the action sports lifestyle: snowboarding, skateboarding, art and music. A week long celebration of fun and friendship, the Vans Wängl Tängl defines what it means to have a crew, pitting three man teams against each other in the snowboard park on the mountain and duos of two on the mini ramp in downtown Mayrhofen. Combine this with the nightlife action, and any crew is sure to have a good time.
From the Looking Sideways Art Show with renowned artists from around the globe, to the nightly concerts with some of Europe’s coolest DJs and live bands like Seether, Roots Manuva and Brooklyn anthem kings M.O.P., every day and night at Wängl was filled with exciting things to do and see. There is simply just too much to mention in one story, so take a look at the photos from last week and soak it all in. You can find recaps with video from the snow and skate events, the Looking Sideways show, the wrap up video and so much more on the vanssnow.tumblr and vanssnow.com. After that, it’s more than likely you’ll want to bring own crew next year.
Special thanks to Thomas “Beckna” Eberharter, Rian Rhoe, Thomaz Autran Garcia of Method Mag, Gary Greenshields from Quiksilver and the entire Wangl Tangl staff for all their hard work. See you in 2013!
