Vans Hi-Standard Series Canada at Bromont, Quebec
Posted March 27, 2012, 3:45 p.m.
The final stop of the Vans Hi-Standard Canada Series took place at Bromont Resort in Quebec on Saturday, March 24th, 2012. Young riders from Montreal and the surrounding area entered to win a piece of the $2,000 prize purse and celebrate the end of the spring season. With unusually warm March temperatures in Quebec this year, most snowboarders had all but forgotten the joys of spring shredding. But the dedicated few that showed up were treated to an all day jump and jib session on Bromont’s big bottom booter and round rail. The awards format for the Hi-Standard Series in Canada is a little different than other contests. Rather than traditional 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, three awards go out that honor overall performance of the riders. The hardest crash, known as the Pain Reliever award, went to Samuel Monosiet for his valiant effort to stomp his tricks. Not coincidentally, Samuel was also awarded the Most Improved Rider of the Day. Proof that hard work pays off, and you can’t get better without taking a few slams.
The MVP award of the day went to young standout Justin Patenaude, whose nonstop attack on both the jump and the rail did not go unnoticed by the judges. Sometimes big things come in small packages. Not to be outdone by his younger brother, Kacey Patenaude took home the award for Best Trick on the Pro-Tec Rail in the 15 and under category, while Axel Théorêt won $300 big ones for the 16 and over category. Nobody went home empty handed though, as $5 Vans Doren Dollars were given out throughout the day to each rider who landed the trick they called at the top of the jump. That’s right… every time you stomped, you got paid. At the end of the day, the $5 Vans bucks were exchanged for cold, hard Canadian cash. Vans: giving everyone the chance to be a pro snowboarder.
Special thanks goes out to Bromont and all the resorts throughout the series for their continued support, all the riders that participated, and we'll see you next season!
